“Northblue” Blueberry
$20.00
“Northblue” is perhaps the most reliable cultivated blueberry variety for southcentral Alaska. It is the first to bloom and thus matures earlier — an advantage when we have a cold/wet summer. It’s partially self-pollinating, but benefits from another variety, like “Chippewa” planted nearby.
Ironically, only limited types of cultivated blueberries succeed in Alaska. Blueberries need very acidic soil, so we suggest getting a soil test. You may need to add sulfur to lower the pH of your soil to give these plants ideal growing conditions. I highly recommend watching this video from the president of the Alaska Pioneer Fruit Growers Association to learn more about blueberry cultivation in Alaska. Sold in 1 gallon pots.
